Senate Chairman distributes relief goods

Chairman Senate Farooq H. Naek said that Senate distributed Rs 20 million relief material among the rain-hit people. He was talking to media after distribution of relief material at a relief camp at Nawabshah on Friday. Senator Dr Seemeen of PML-Q, Senator Khalid Mehmood Soomro of JUI-F and Senator Abdul Haseeb of MQM were present on the occasion.
Chairman Senate said that Senate was symbol of Federation and Senate members at this time were present at Nawabshah- the home town of President Asif Ali Zardari. He said the President was personally overseeing the relief activities. Farooq Naek stated that relief work was in progress wherever the Senate team visited the site. He said floods caused heavy damages, infrastructure had collapsed, schools and college building had damaged.
Senate Chairman said that rain water unexpectedly accumulated heavily, crops have been destroyed and it was time to carry out relief work jointly. He said that resources were less, while the demand for relief was too much. Farooq Naek appealed for extending generous help to rain-affected people under the circumstances, help administration to improve further the relief network so that the ration and required drugs be supplied in time.
He said that dewatering of rainwater was the priority and work in this regard was in progress. The affectees are receiving relief goods. Senate Chairman said the disaster was vast and volunteers should come forward to run affairs in an organised manner. He said that dewatering issue was being tackled by the administration but it was so heavy that it could not be resolved in a day and it requires adequate time. Farooq Naek said that damages were heavy and at this juncture, dollars 350 million were required urgently. Earlier, he distributed the relief items among the rain affectees.
