KARACHI: Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Asad Ashraf Malik said that the law regarding appointment of qualified pharmacists at hospitals, medical stores and chemists should be strictly enforced to ensure proper guidance to the public on type and quality of medicines at a reasonable price.
He regretted that the law was not being properly enforced in Sindh, whereas it was to a great extent applied at the Federal level and in other Provinces.
Asad was speaking at the Training Workshop on "Role of Pharmacists in hospital formulary decision making" at a hotel here on Saturday.
The Ombudsman regretted that certain pharmaceutical companies were influencing doctors for prescribing medicines of their companies.
He said that this unethical tendency needs to be checked as it was not in the interest of public health and could lead to corruption in the health sector.
Asad, sharing his experience with the audience said that while he was Commissioner SESSI he took action against supply of substandard medicines to SESSI hospitals and he ensured quality medicines to the workers of the organisation.
He stressed the need for adopting Urdu language in functions so that the message should reach maximum number of people.
Earlier, President of the Society in his welcome address highlighted its aims and objectives.
Other office bearers also spoke on the occasion. Later, the Provincial Ombudsman visited different stalls, where medical products were also displayed.
