ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Saturday urged upon the politicians to work for welfare of masses by giving practical proposals to the government.
Terming the elements misleading the public as political actors, she underlined the need for forging unity among the nation and resolving public issues on the priority basis.
In a statement issued here, the minister said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is the symbol of federation and it would welcome each and every proposal given in the national interest as well as for well-being of the common man.
She said that some elements, who wanted to hijack the public mandate, have wrong-thinking that they would succeed in bringing any revolution by joining hands with those who were rejected by major political parties.
Dr Firdous said it is evident from political history of the country that such elements have never succeeded in their nefarious designs as the public knows them very well.
She said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto wrote a new chapter in history of the country by introducing politics of reconciliation, which helped in strengthening democracy and democratic institutions.
Dr Firdous said that founder of PPP Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto laid the foundation of democracy with their blood, adding that whosoever would work to damage it, would be called a traitor.
The minister said the entire world is facing various challenges including financial crisis but their only solution is to follow the path of democracy.
She said that the decisions taken by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani to ensure national integrity and sovereignty are in accordance with the public sentiments.
The minister said the mission of Pakistan Peoples Party is to create awareness among masses and give them their rights, meeting their expectations.
