ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on December 15, for the lowest income group up to Rs.8, 000, has registered decrease of 0.45 per cent over the previous week.
The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 167.64 points as against 168.39 points registered in the previous week, according provisional figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
SPI for the combined group registered negative growth of 0.33 per cent as it went down from 175.03 points in the previous week to 174.45 points in the week under review.
As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 4.90 percent.
As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups ranging from Rs.8001-12000, Rs.12001-18000 and above Rs.18000 decreased by 0.40 per cent, 0.38 percent and 0.33 per cent respectively.
During the week under review average prices of 14 items registered decrease, while that of 12 items increased with the remaining 27 items' prices unchanged.
The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included potatoes, onions, sugar, garlic, chicken live (farm), tomatoes, moong pulse washed, gur, mash pulse washed, masoor pulse washed, gram pulse washed, red chillies powder (loose), rice basmati broken and energy savor 14 watts.
The items which registered increase in their prices included, bananas, egg hen (farm), wheat, cooked beef plate, wheat flour bag, L.P.G. (11 kg Cylinder), milk fresh, curd, firewood, mustard oil, vegetable ghee (loose) and tea prepared.
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice IRRI-6, bread plain, beef, mutton, milk powdered, cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (tin), salt powdered (loose), tea, cooked dal plate, cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn, georgette, sandal ladies, electric charges, gas charges (up to 100 MMBTU), Kerosene, washing soap, match box, petrol, diesel, telephone local call and bath soap.
