HYDERABAD: A citizen has pleaded the Sindh High Court to order inquiry of alleged misappropriation of the funds spent on the development of Gorakh hill station in Dadu district.

The Hyderabad circuit bench here Thursday issued notices to the respondents for submitting reply on January 23.

According to the details, petitioner advocate Gahi Khan Jatoi, a resident of Jamshoro district, prayed the court to order Gorakh Hill Development Authority (GHDA) to submit details of development expenditures, annual budget and funds contributed by oil and gas companies.

He also requested the court to order the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to conduct an inquiry of the alleged misappropriations. The petitioner also made the health and police authorities as respondents in the case and claimed that neither a health facility nor a police station operated in the area.

"I visited Gorakh hills in December 2017, and observed that there were no facilities available for the tourists," he stated.

He informed the court that there was only one rest house and one restaurant offered very expensive lodging and meals. "The rest house charges Rs 6,000 per night for a room and Rs 2,000 per night for a tent," he claimed and added that a plate of rice was sold at Rs1,500 and a small bottle of water for Rs. 250. "The roads are also in very poor condition and make the road trip to Gorakh fraught with the risk of accident and casualties," he contended.Jatoi complained that the GHDA was not allowing sell or purchase of land in the area and that the local people were being forced to vacate their homes.

"The court should order Sindh government and GDHA to submit the land revenue record," he urged.Meanwhile, the court ordered chairman GHDA to personally appear at the hearing on January 23 and to submit the record of expenditures incurred during last 5 years. The notices were also issued to the other respondents including Additional Advocate General Sindh.
