The met office has advised the farmers to irrigate their crops as per need as rainfall is expected in the cotton belt of the country in the first 10 days of September. "Due to the less rainfall, expected in the cotton-belt, farmers are advised to irrigate the crops as per requirement," said the Met Office fresh advisory issued in September.
The forecast said monsoon currents are penetrating into the north-eastern and south-eastern parts of the country and will continue during the first 10 days of September. It added that monsoon currents are likely to cause light/moderate rain in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa, northern Punjab, and central Balochistan. Heavy rainfall is expected in the coastal belt of Sindh during the period, mostly from second of September and may persist for two to three days, it added.
It further said that monsoon current might penetrate into the northern parts of the country from seventh of September due to which light to moderate rain may occur at isolated places in northern Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir, according to the met office. Temperature may decrease by two to three degree centigrade in the agricultural planes of upper Sindh, central and southern planes of Punjab, lower Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa and adjoining areas of Balochistan during the first five days of September and may gradually increase by almost the same extent during next five days.
This rise, it added, may be more pronounced in the Southern Punjab and upper Sindh during the next five days of the month, it adds. The forecast warns gusty winds may prevail occasionally in the monsoon belt and adjoining areas during the next 10 days of September.
During the last 10 days of August, rain/thunderstorms with gusty winds have been reported mainly from Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and isolated places in Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa, Sindh and at a few places in Balochistan, according to the met office.
