ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production expressed displeasure over non compliance of its directions regarding sending case against authorities responsible for Pakistan Steel Mills to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Chairman of the committee, Senator Hidayatullah directed to send the case of illegal withdrawal of funds from provident funds of employees of Pakistan Steels Mills to NAB so that strict action should be ensured against the responsible authorities.
The Chairman said it was not appropriate to consider provident funds of the employees of PSM. He said the recommendations of the committee for revival of PSM should be strictly implemented.
Secretary Ministry of Industries assured the committee that the case of provident funds would be sent to NAB by tomorrow (Thursday).
The officials of PSM informed the committee that besides Chairman PSM, some other officials and trustees were also involved in the illegal activity.
The committee also directed to pay at least Rs 15,000 per month salary to employees of welfare school being run under PSM.
The committee also recommended to resolve on priority the issue of gratuity and pension dues to the employees of PSM.
Meanwhile, briefing the committee, Managing Director Utility Stores Corporation informed the committee that currently the corporation was facing loss of Rs 17 million daily and as many as 4,477 stores were running in loss.
He said main reason behind such a huge loss was over burden of employees as around 480 employees were in surplus.
