Kashmir Council European Union (EU) Chairman Ali Raza Syed has urged the United Nation to set up a tribunal for hearing war crimes in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK). Commenting on a report of Indian Official Human Rights Commission about 2,156 unidentified bodies buried at 38 sites in IHK, Ali Raza Syed said, Indian military personnel involved in the crimes should be punished through the international tribunal.
In a telephone talk with APP on Monday, he said the report released after a probe by the investigative wing of the Human Rights Commission of IHK chapter said there were 851 unidentified bodies in Baramulla, 14 in Bandipore, 14 in Handwara and 1,277 in Kupwara.
The Chairman called for a detailed investigation, exhumation and prompt DNA profiling of the bodies by international experts as a large number of relatives of the missing people are waiting for their loved ones for several years. Ali Raza Syed pointed out that the issue was already raised by Kashmir Council EU at the different European forums. The council held seminars, conferences and demonstrations in the context and would continue its efforts to raise the issue in Europe. The survey of the un-named graves was first released by Netherland's human rights activist, Marjan Lucas, with the collaboration of a local human rights organisation in IHK namely the International People's Tribunal on Human Rights and Justice.
