Repromulgation of SLGO-2001: 5,298 vacancies in LG Department become available for filling

With revival of SLGO 2001, the future of 5,298 vacancies of Sindh Local Government department has become bright because these vacancies were abolished during the short period of SLGO 1979, well-placed sources told Business Recorder.
Said vacancies had been created about a few months back and Local Government department had decided to fill these after the Sindh Budget 2011-12 but with abolishment of SLGO 2001 and promulgation of SLGO 1979, these vacancies had been automatically abolished, sources said.
After the re-promulgation of SLGO 2001, Secretary for Local Government department Ali Ahmed Lund has called a meeting and discussed the issues pertaining to the appointments on the 5,298 vacancies. It was decided in said meeting that LG department would issue advertisements in this regard within a week and process of tests and interviews would be started as soon as possible, sources said.
On the directives of Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durani, the officials of department have gathered the data of vacancies again from all over the province including Karachi, sources said.
They have made two lists of vacancies, one is about the vacancies of Union Councils (UCs) and one is about the vacancies of Taulka Municipal Administrations (TMAs), sources said. A large number of vacancies out of 5,298 are related to UCs while all the Union Councils had been abolished with the revival of SLGO 1979, but with re-imposing of SLGO 2001, all the UCs have been restored again, sources further said.
According to details, there are 1,024 vacancies in Union Councils of almost all districts of province out of total figure of 5,298 vacancies. One Senior accounts Clerk, 249 Junior Clerks, 293 Gardeners/Malhis, 236 of Peons/Naib Qasid and 245 vacancies of chowkidars/guards are the part of 1,024 vacancies of UCs, sources told. Rest of 4,274 vacancies has been identified in all almost TMAs including 18 Town Municipal Administrations (TMAs) of Karachi. It is pertinent to mention here that 18 towns of Karachi had also been abolished but these have been restored with revival of SLGO 2001.
Sources informed that there are 4 vacancies of grade 15, 17 of grade 14, 35 of grade 12, 106 of grade 11, 50 of grade 10, 40 of grade 9, 31 of grade 8, 98 of grade 7, 52 of grade 6, 438 of grade 5, 121 of grade 4, 69 of grade 3, 1,423 of grade 2 and 1,790 of grade 1. After the advertisements, a few committees comprising on officers of department would be made for the short listing of applications and call letters of interviews.
In the last, one special committee would be formed for the final result of successful candidates, sources added. It is also pointed out here that President Asif Ali Zadari has directed Sindh government to announce more and more jobs for the people of province as PPP-led government could defuse the hot-situation which created after the decision of abolishing the compassionate system within the very short period.
