Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Ijaz A Khokhar has invited the textile industry associations on 15th August for a roundtable conference on prevailing cotton crisis. The roundtable conference will be held in Lahore.
It may be noted that Chairman PRGMEA had asked textile industry stakeholders to join heads and chalk out a unanimous strategy to deal with cotton crisis. In this regard, he has proposed the textile industry stakeholders that they should make efforts to generate demand for locally produced bumper cotton crop to avoid crisis ahead.
According to him, the textile industry stakeholders including cotton growers, ginners, spinners, weaver, processors and value added manufactures and exporters should pursue the government for uninterrupted power supply to the value added industry to generate demand for locally produced bumper cotton crop.
He has expressed the fear that ongoing global economic meltdown due to US and EU debt crisis would hit back textile industry growth in Pakistan. There is an urgent need of joint strategy and therefore the industry stakeholders should sit together to ponder over the prevailing crisis like situation.
He said the power demand of value added textile industry was about 500MW and an uninterrupted power supply to the woven garment and knitwear units would activate whole textile industry. According to him, the international buyers have heavy reliance on Pakistani garment exports due to the quality of its products and timely delivery, which is a rare combination among competitors of Pakistan garment industry.
Chairman PRGMEA has expressed the hope that leading textile industry associations including All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA), Pakistan Sweaters Exporters Association (PAKSEA), All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA), Farmers Associate Pakistan (FAP) and Pakistan Cotton Ginners' Association (PCGA) would attend the roundtable for a joint strategy on cotton crisis. He said recommendations of the roundtable conference would be forwarded to the Ministry of Textile Industry, Ministry of Commerce and Trade, Ministry of Water and Power and Ministry of Finance for necessary action.
