The Federal Board of Revenue has decided to introduce a new sales tax accounting and monitoring system to remove confusion about reporting of gross or net revenue collection figures by the Large Taxpayer Units and Regional Tax Offices. In this connection, the FBR has constituted a committee for formulation of sales tax accounting and monitoring system here on Wednesday.
A senior FBR official said that the basic purpose of introducing a new sales tax accounting and monitoring system to ensure reporting of accurate figures by the field formations. Presently, there is no concept of Data Processing Centers (DPCs) on the sales tax side. On the pattern of income tax, there should be DPCs on the sales tax side to ensure proper reporting and reconciliation of sales tax collection reported by the Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs).
According to the FBR office order to streamline and further improve the sales tax/FED accounting and monitoring mechanism and to integrate it into the existing data processing system the following committee is hereby notified: Sardar Munawar Zaman, Chief Co-ordinator Computer Wing, Convenor; Abdul Sattar Aura, Chief IR (STP), FBR, Member; Dr Bashir Ullah Khan, Additional Commissioner RTO Islamabad, Member; Najeeb Qadir, Director DR&S, Member and Imtiaz Ahmed Khan, General Manager Software Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (Pral) would also work as member.
The Committee will draw the standard operating procedure (SOP) for accounting and monitoring of sales tax/FED. The convenor is requested to call the meeting of the committee immediately and submit a report to FBR Member Inland Revenue by August 20, 2011, the FBR office order added.
