The Majlis e Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, (MWM) Pakistan has called for a special package for Kurrum Agency by declaring the region as 'calamity hit' and stressed the need of implementation of peace accord for establishment of everlasting peace in the agency.
The agency people are facing enormous difficulties in prevailing unrest situation, whereas the prices of essential commodities, petroleum products, and other items are on the rise in the area, said MWM deputy secretary general Mohammad Amin Shaheedi at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday. Accompanied by Secretary Bashir Bokhari, Ali Ausat and Asghar Asghari he said that the people are stranded for past several months due to persistence closure of the Thal-Parachinar road, which is causing immense shortage of foods and livelihood in the area.
He observed that unemployment ratio has increased, and the soaring prices of essential commodities, petroleum products and other livelihood have made life difficult in the area. Amin said that the crime ratio has also grown in wake of poor law and order in the agency. He said that the government and security agencies had failed to control prevailing unrest situation in the area.
About the peace food and logistic caravan, he said that the caravan comprising 10 trucks of foods and goods had been allowed to leave for Parachinar, Kurram agency on 30th of last month after putting immense pressure. Sharing the ordeals and obstruction faced by the caravan, he said that the food and logistic caravan had been terrorised by militants as caravan was heading to its destination without security from Baab-e-Kurram. After threatening by militants, he said, the drivers had stranded in Kurram agency.
He demanded of the government special package by declaring the agency as calamity hit. He also called for poverty survey to extend assistance to poor and deserving people through the Benazir Income Support program. Amin said the agency people are peace loving and patriotic, but are facing enormous difficulties in the prevailing situation.
