The Supreme Court Wednesday again directed Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) to submit a written reply pertaining to the response of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on the removal of Sohail Ahmed, Secretary Establishment, for restoring former FIA official Hussain Asghar to investigate Hajj scam by Friday (today).
A six-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has been hearing the Hajj case. The AGP informed the bench that he had a meeting with the PM in pursuance of the court orders where a copy of the decision on the restoration of Hussain Asghar, probing officer designated for the Hajj scam, and court notice on the removal of Sohail Ahmed Secretary Establishment was thoroughly examined. However, he prayed before the bench to grant him time till Monday as the PM wanted to thoroughly go through all the documents in another meeting.
On this, the CJP observed that it would not be possible to constitute a larger Bench for weeks because the judges have to attend courts in registries to hear the general public cases. Tehsin Anwar, Director General (DG), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), who was also present in the court, assured the bench to implement the court directives related to Hussain Asghar's restoration in letter and in spirit, adding that there was no pressure on him from any quarter to deviate from the apex court's verdict.
However, the bench was told that Hussain Asghar could not be traced so far as the AGP said that he had made many attempts to contact Asghar even through DIG Headquarter Gilgit Baltistan. The DIG had said that Hussain Asghar left Skardu and was on his way to Islamabad. The CJP wondered how an officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police despite receiving information through fax regarding his notification of posting as Director FIA had failed to reach Islamabad. The court directed the AGP to submit a report on Asghar's disappearance in the next hearing. The court adjourned the hearing till Friday (today).
