It is a matter of immense satisfaction that Renewable & Alternative Energy Association of Pakistan (REAP) is organising its first mega event, the 1st International Exhibition for Alternative Energy and Energy Efficiency being held at Convention Centre, Islamabad.
I am glad to see that REAP, the first registered non-profit organisation in private sector, has played a significant role in promotion of Renewable Energy (RE) technologies through seminars, training workshops, road shows, exhibitions, resolution of duty issues etc in the country, since its inception last year.
Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) has been mandated to serve as one-window facility to implement policies, programs and projects through private sector in the field of RE; assist and facilitate development and generation of RE to achieve sustainable economic growth; encourage transfer of technology and develop indigenous manufacturing base for RE technologies; promote provision of energy services that are based on RE resources. REAP, already contributing towards promotion of RE technologies and equipment has taken yet another step for the purpose.
The 3-day Exhibition, I believe, will provide an opportunity to build consumer confidence on the RE equipment, which has been one of the major hurdles in the fast track deployment of RE technologies in the country. However, these confidence building efforts also need to be supplemented with strict quality control and development of standards for all RE equipment. I hope REAP would play its due role in ensuring international quality standards, while importing, manufacturing and selling RE equipment in Pakistan.
I am pleased to learnt that technical workshops are also being organised with the Exhibition, where experts would make presentations on various aspects of RE technologies like RE Policy, Wind, Hydro, Solar, Solar Tube Wells, Solar Air Conditioning, Biodiesel, Biogas, Geothermal, Carbon Credits (CDM) etc.
I congratulate the office bearers, members of REAP and other participants for the event; I assure all possible support and co-operation with REAP in their efforts for promotion of RE technologies in Pakistan.
