Russian top seed Vera Zvonareva clinched the inaugural 220,000-dollar WTA Baku title on Sunday, beating seventh-seeded compatriot Ksenia Pervak 6-1, 6-4 in the final. World number three Zvonareva took one hour and 23 minutes to record her second win over the 20-year-old Pervak in as many meetings and claim her 12th career title.
Zvonareva, 26, broke her opponent's serve twice for a commanding 4-0 first set lead before Pervak chalked up her first game. After making another break to take the opening set in 34 minutes Zvonareva then produced three more breaks against two for Pervak in an untidy second set.
Zvonareva received a crystal trophy and a 37,000-dollar cheque, while runner-up Pervak, who was playing in her first career final, pocketed 19,000 dollars.
