Minister Labour Welfare Punjab, Haji Ehsaan-ud-Din Qureshi said, here on Sunday, that rupees 70 billion have been allocated for Southern Punjab in the Annual Development Programme of current financial year, which is 32 percent of the development budget whereas population of southern Punjab is 31 percent.
He said that Punjab government has allocated a major portion of development budget for the backward areas of Southern Punjab. He said that government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, has taken revolutionary steps for providing jobs, education, health, food and other social facilities which include Ashiyana Housing Scheme, Jinnah Abadi Scheme, Yellow Cab Scheme, Daanish Schools, free medicines and dialysis in hospitals etc.
While talking to various delegations, Ehsaan-ud-Din said that rupees two billion would be utilised for setting up water filtration plant, Rs 12 billion for local government development schemes and Rs three billion would be utilised for local level schemes to provide missing such as link roads in the rural areas.
He said that government has ensured modern health care facilities and free medicines to the poor and resource less people and budget for healthcare facilities has been increased four times during present government, which has enhanced four times during the last three years. He said that the government has allocated Rs 42.30 billion for provision of state of the art health facilities to the people of the province, Rs 2,427,520,620/- will be spent for provision of medical treatment in social security hospitals and Rs 1,134,605,000/- at social security dispensaries for labourers and their dependants.
The minister further said that government has allocated Rs 71.63 billion for the social sector whereas record funds of Rs 220 billion have been provided for development projects to provide health, education and other civic amenities to meet the need of the growing population.
