Girls secure top positions in SSC Part II exams

Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has announced the results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Part-II annual examination 2011 General Group (Regular and Private) on Tuesday.
Ramsha Majeed d/o Muhammad Majeed Khan of PECHS Girls' School secured the first position with 772 marks, Fatima Rashid d/o Rashid Siddik of PECHS Girls' School stood at second position with 762 marks and Aqsa Yasin d/o Muhammad Yasin of Gulistan Shah Abdul Latif Girls' Secondary School also got 762 marks and obtained second position.
Arbia Humayun d/o Humayun Khan of PECHS Girls' School grabbed third position by obtaining 753 marks. Addressing ceremony to honour the position holders Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) Executive District Officer (EDO) Education Karachi Mohammad Ibrahim Kumbhar said that political pressure and interference of influential persons on department often forced them to carry out unwanted things which ultimately cast bad effect on our school education. Many government school teachers have political connections due to which they face problems in transfers and posts of teachers on their poor performances.
He said that the management of the private schools enjoys full authority of hire and fire that is why their standard is better as compared to the standard of government-run schools, because they do not tolerate inefficient and negligent teachers.
Kumbhar admitted that the standard of government-run schools is far below the standard of schools run under the Cambridge system. He said that Karachi has more than 9,000 private schools while the number of government-run schools is about 3,000. Director, Directorate of Private Institutions Sindh, Mansoob Hussain Siddiqui, said that the BSEK has no particular formula for the answer-sheet assessment process. More and more parents opt for the Cambridge or other educational boards because they feel under these systems their children would get proper grades as per merit.
Chairman BSEK Anzar Zaidi said that the management of board is trying to introduce more transparency in answer-sheet assessment and examination process. He said that during the SSC exams teachers and candidates face a lot of problems due to load shedding. Total 29,807 candidates were registered in SSC Part-II General Group (Regular and Private) and out of them 29,163 appeared at the exam while 15,598 passed it. As many as 241 candidates obtained A-One grade, 1,521 'A' grade, 3,848 'B' grade, 5,994 'C' grade, 3,759 'D' grade, while 235 candidates got 'E' grade. The pass percentage remained 69.17.
