In 1999, to increase its presence in the consumer banking segment, the Khayaban-e-Tauheed branch was established in Karachi. From 2000 onwards the financial sector in Pakistan underwent a phenomenal change, and consumer banking in particular, witnessed rapid growth. The year 2006 proved to be eventful for HSBC Pakistan. Together with inaugurating branches in Lahore and Islamabad, Pakistan's first HSBC Premier Branch was also established in Karachi. New services were introduced via Payments and Cash Management and the establishment of the HSBC Pakistan Call Centre. Growth continued in 2007 with branches opening in more cities of the country. HSBC's network in Pakistan grew further in 2009, when more branches opened in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi.
CEO'S MESSAGE
CEO HSBC Pakistan, Lloyd C Maddock was delighted at receiving the accolade from the CFA Association and gave the following message for the BR Supplement:
"As a global finance business and specifically as an employer, we attach great significance to the CFA qualification, and actively support our staff to attain it.
We are therefore delighted to receive this very meaningful recognition from the CFA Association in Pakistan.
It is true that in Pakistan we are a comparatively smaller bank, but we are an integral part of the global HSBC Group, and this connectivity enables us to serve our corporate and personal customers both domestically and internationally.
Here in Pakistan we have navigated some fairly choppy waters over the last 2 years, but I'm pleased to say that our business is in great shape and we are working hard to expand it. Last year was actually our most profitable year in Pakistan, since we opened some 30 years ago.
So, I'm very grateful to accept this award, which of course reflects the efforts of our talented, hard working and committed cadre of staff. In my career with HSBC I've worked in 10 countries, and the team we have here, are second to none. "
