Punjab government will introduce solar water pump technology for the benefit of farming community. The pumps to be operated through solar energy will provide abundant water for irrigation purposes free of cost, which will also result in increase in agri-production.
This was stated by Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab, Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa while addressing a special meeting regarding Khareef crop at 90-Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam, here Monday.
Khosa said that effective measures are being taken for the benefit of farmers, which include provision of water as well as supply at the tail ends of canals. He stressed upon the PMI unit of irrigation department to ensure accuracy of water gauges as well as pay special attention to the brick lining and protection of the banks of canals during monsoon season. He directed that flow of water in canals should be updated on daily basis on the web-site of irrigation department.
The senior advisor directed that stern action should be taken against the elements involved in water theft. He said that digital technology including SMS service and Internet should be fully utilised for the guidance of farmers. Provincial Secretaries of Irrigation, Agriculture, Livestock as well as senior officers of PAMPCO were also present on the occasion.
