The National Executive Board of Pakistan Workers Federation meeting here on Sunday asked the government to raise minimum wages and old-age benefits of the industrial and commercial workers that commensurate with price hike and enforcement of labour laws and implementation of Seventh Wage Board Award for the newspapers' workers through independent labour inspection machinery in conformity with ILO convention No 81 ratified by the Government of Pakistan.
The Executive Board asked for amendment in labour laws and abolishment of section 27-b of the banking companies ordinance in conformity with ILO core conventions ratified by the government.
They asked further for raising power generation through developing hydel and coal fired thermal power stations in the public sector to overcome serious load shedding which has rendered millions of workers jobless. Federation top leaders, including Khurshid Ahmad General Secretary participated in the meeting.
