Fatimid seeks land for Haematological Complex

Fatimid Foun-dation, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has demanded allotment of land for establishment of Haematological Complex in the provincial metropolis. The complex would be established on five-kanal land where separate blocks for thalesimia and haemophilia patients while a research centre would also be established in it.
The demand was made in a joint emergency meeting of the trustees and members of the advisory committee of the foundation. Those who attended were Administrator of Peshawar Centre Colonel (Retd) Afzal Hassan, Trustee Khalid Sultan Khawaja, Dr Tufail Mohammad Khan, Fazal Elahi, Haji Rasheed Ahmad, Ahmad Shokaib, Sahibzada Faqir Hussein, Haji Shirazuddin, Liaquat Hayat and others.
The administrator of Peshawar Centre Colonel Afzal Hassan briefed the meeting regarding the problems faced by the institute and patients, saying that due to the shortage of resources more than 5,000 registered thalesimia and haemophilia patients are facing difficulties. He said that the affairs of the centre are being run with the co-operation and donations of the philanthropists.
The meeting was informed that in case of emergency the needs and requirements of the Peshawar Centre are met with from Karachi Centre. He said that due to the lack of awareness the number of thalesimia patients in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is higher than other provinces. Similarly, he said, the number of patients in Peshawar Centre is also many-fold higher than that of in other centres of the country.
He said that the number of the patients is increasing as compared to limited resources and capacity of the centre.
To fill the deficiencies and provide better facilities to thalesimia and haemophilia patients in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in Fatimid Foundation, they called for the provision of official land for establishment of Haematological Complex, increase in grant and disprol medicine.
Speaking in the meeting, Dr Tufail Mohammad Khan said that a separate thalesimia centre is under consideration in Mardan for the patients of Mardan, Malakand, Buner and Nowshera to cater the patients of the area. However, he said construction would be started after the provision of land.
He was critical of the lack of the provision of disprol medicine and termed it a risk for the life of the patients. He demanded of the pharmaceutical companies for immediate provision of the medicine as it is directly affecting poor and destitute patients in the province.
