Pakistan got off to a great start when they shocked Ireland 3-2 on the opening day of World Cup Snooker Team Championship in Bangkok on Monday. National Champion Shahid Aftab produced a sterling show in Pakistan's fighting show as he won both his singles matches and also won the doubles with Muhammad Sajjad, said a message received here.
Ken Doherty defeated Muhammad Sajjad with a brilliant break of 111. However Shahid Aftab levelled the terms when he beat Fergal o'Brain spiced with a neatly compiled break of 74. Pakistan's Shahid and Sajjad beat Doherty o'Brian to gain 2-1 lead for the country. Fourth frame saw Shahid Aftab downing Ken Doherty 74-16 with a match winning break of 39 to give Pakistan an assailable 3-1 lead. Fergal o' Brian smashed a break of 110 to beat Muhammad Sajjad to complete a 2-3 shoreline in favour Pakistan. Pakistan will meet Germany in their second group match on Tuesday.
