The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) here on Sunday rejected the commissionerate system in Sindh province and announced that it would challenge it in court, besides protesting in assemblies at provincial and national levels.
Dr Farooq Sattar and Anis Qaimkhani, addressing a press conference at MQM headquarters Nine Zero Azizabad after a joint meeting of MQM Rabita Committee in Karachi and London, said that the revival of commissionerate system shows dictatorial mentality. They said that with this step the government wants to rob the citizens of their basic rights.
They said that this step of the government is an example of the worst dictatorship, and added that the opposition by their party to the commissionerate system is based on principles. They said this system is not in vogue in any part of the world and even the British people have rejected it.
They said that if the commissionerate system had any merit today it would have been in vogue in the UK. They said the government wants to enslave people of Sindh through this outdated system, as it would benefit just 2 percent privileged people. They said they would oppose the system at every level and contact masses and human rights bodies.
They said the commissionerate system is a conspiracy to get Sindh province divided. They said their party was being punished for sitting on the opposition benches.
