Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani meeting a delegation of Lahore Press Club led by its President Sarmad Bashir on Saturday said, "if the government was removed in a constitutional way, they would sit in opposition and serve the nation and the country."
Regarding Salim Shahzad case the prime minister said if the American Defence Minister had any proof of government sanctioning of the murder, he should bring evidence before the inquiry commission. Gilani said it was not that service could only be rendered while remaining in government, adding that if his government was removed in a constitutional way, he would serve the country being an opposition leader.
Regarding Punjab government, he said he wanted to run the system and never intended to derail it. All the past governments worked under the shadow of armed forces. He said his government would complete its tenure. The prime minister said he is not afraid of any 'Grand Alliance'.
Regarding Karachi situation, the prime minister said in order to control the situation they were utilising all resources. Regarding solution to Karachi problem, Gilani said earlier PPP used to hear MQM's point of view but now it would take decisions on its own in best national interest. The prime minister hoped that MQM would rejoin the cabinet. Meanwhile, Lahore Press Club members apprised the prime minister of their problems. The prime minister assured the members that the government would make efforts for granting soft loans to journalists to build their houses.
