Business community in the provincial metropolis have expressed their worries over Karachi situation, cancelling their business trips in the wake of violent incidents claiming about 100 lives in four days. Majority of businessmen kept on discussing rising violence in Karachi, showing their worries and fearing a civil war in case no immediate step is taken by the government.
One businessman said that he was due to visit Karachi on Saturday but he dropped the idea after having media reports that the miscreants have opened fire on a bus in Hassan Square. Some of them also criticised the government for not taking the responsible ones to the task due to political considerations, resulting into loss of lives and peace of business hub of the country.
Some business circles believe that the government would soon start deweaponisation campaign in Karachi. According to them, the government had no option but to start with this campaign to bring the peace of the city back. However, there are many who disagree with the approach. According to them, the situation was more of political nature then administrative one. They said the PPP government has preferred political compromises to linger on its rule.
It may be noted that both the PML-N and the MQM have announced an opposition alliance after the government rigging was exposed in AJK elections. They have also challenged the elections results in the court of law. The business circles said they were expecting a civil war like situation in case the government delayed action against the rival groups in Karachi.
