MQM observes mourning day; protest march called off

On the call of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) city-wide mourning day was observed against unabated gory incidents of violence in the metropolis, where dozens of citizens fell prey to terrorists. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) also called off a peace march in respect of mourning day, previously scheduled for Friday in protest against soaring violence in Karachi.
Earlier on Thursday the MQM announced to mourn the killing of innocent people by terrorists and to hold a rally from KPC to the CM house. MQM jointly with PML-N has submitted requisition for a special National Assembly session where party legislators would record their protest on the floor of the house.
In view of mourning day the business activities remained suspended all over city while public transport was not available. The activists of the MQM hoisted black flags at their party office buildings and houses. Funeral prayers of MQM activists killed in riots at Orangi Town, Qasba Colony and Banars Chowk were offered. Mohammed Kamal, Syed Abid Shah, Anwar Mushtaq, Shabbir Ahmed were among those whose funeral prayers were offered and later were laid to rest at their nearby graveyards.
MQM arranged Fateha Khwani for its slain workers at Lal Qila ground Azizabad, participated by Deputy Convenor Dr Farooq Sattar, Anees Qaimkhani, Sindh legislators, senators and other office-bearers. They prayed to the Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved families members to bear the irreparable losses.
Likewise Karachi mourning day was also observed in other parts of the province including Hayderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar, Ghotki, Jamshoro, Umarkot, Thatta, Nosheroferoz, Badin, Larkana, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Dadu, Shahdadkot and Qambar.
Meanwhile, the MQM and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) submitted a joint requisition for a special National Assembly session on the recent spate of violence in Karachi The requisition, signed by 11 members from both parties, recommends a four-point agenda that focuses on the law and order situation in the city.
