Power shortfall stayed above 5,000MW during last 24 hours, inviting troubles for the consumers at large in the city. Power generation stood at 13,107MW against a demand of 18,140MW, leaving the system with a total shortfall of 50,33MW. The hydro, thermal, IPPs and RPPs generated 4,970MW, 1,987MW, 6,006MW and 144MW, respectively, while supply to the KESC remained 710MW.
The consumers faced terrible long hours of load shedding, leading to protests against power authorities and vow further to hold a large protest on coming Monday. The commercial and industrial consumers are the worst hit, as the business activities have totally been stalled altogether due to increasing load shedding. The Pepco sources said the gap between demand and supply likely to continue ahead due to constraints on fuel supply to thermal units.
