Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry while hearing a petition against former SHO Satu Katla police station Ghulam Dastgir who allegedly kidnapped the petitioner's wife and forcibly solemnised nikkah with her directed the Inspector General Punjab Police (IGP) to remove corrupt officials and those involved in different crimes, from key posts.
The former SHO also illegally occupied the house of the petitioner Muhammad Iqbal. Chief Justice also directed the IGP to complete inquiry against Ghulam Dastgir in one-month time and submit it before the court. Earlier, the IGP appeared before the court and said that there were a number of complaints against his subordinates for misusing of their powers and departmental proceedings have been initiated against them and even many had been terminated on proving of charges. He also stated that he had issued instructions to all regional police officers to remove corrupt officers and register cases against them.
Petitioner Muhammad Iqbal submitted that Ghulam Dastaghir occupied his house, kidnapped his wife Uzma and later forced her into marriage. He further alleged that the SHO had still detained his wife.
Petitioner said that about this incident DIG Major (Retd) Mubashar Ullah conducted inquiry and had held Ghulam Dastaghir guilty of offence. He said after the inquiry report, the SHO was terminated from the service but no legal action was taken against him for kidnapping his wife and illegal possession of his house. He prayed to get his wife recovered from Ghulam Dastgir and take action against him in accordance with law.
