To encourage the students of conflict-hit areas, the district administration of Upper Dir distributed prizes among position holder students of state run high schools.
More than 150 students, who secured first and second positions in the metric examination held in 2010, were awarded prizes. District Co-ordination Officer (DCO), Ghulam Mohammad was the chief guest while Executive District Officer (EDO) Education, Zia Uddin, government officials, teachers and parents were also present.
Around 152 male and female students from 44 government schools of Dir, Sheringal and Wari sub-division who clinched top positions in their schools in the metric examination 2010, were awarded uniform, hand bags, scientific calculators, note books, diaries, emergency lights, table lamps and dictionaries.
DCO Upper Dir and EDO education distributed prizes among the students of class 9th and 10th to encourage and motivate them to continue their studies in the future. Speaking at the ceremony, District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Upper Dir, Ghulam Mohammad congratulated and praised the students especially the girl's position-holders for getting education despite difficult circumstances and several problems in the area.
He said that it was our moral and national obligation to equip the students with quality education and encourage them for better future. Development is not possible without education, he said, adding that despite difficult situation in the area, the students proved themselves by securing top positions in their schools.
He also announced that students who would clinch first, second and third positions in the next examinations in district would be awarded Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 cash awards. EDO Education, Zia Uddin while addressing the students said that students should focus only on their studies and the government would provide them every possible facility.
