When the initiative of holding e-banking conference in Bangladesh by a Pakistani-based company was discussed three years ago, it was taken lightly by most people. Slowly and gradually we kept our resolve and managed to hold the 1st e-banking conference in 2009. By the Grace of Almighty Allah, Total Communication is now completing a hat trick of events by holding the 3rd e-banking and mobile commerce conference at Dhaka today.
With the backing of the Central Bank and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, this year episode has an added feature of Mobile Commerce as well. The Bangladeshi industry is on rise and the national economy is showing growth on year to year basis. This means more and more banking customers.
The banking sector of Bangladesh has gone through a progressive path in the recent path. Banks are now offering services that were not heard off few years back. Focus has been to serve the customers through better technology and alternate channels. Banks, with the help of their technology partners, has been successful in their endeavour thus far. But more needs to be done.
Ever increasing e-banking transactions means higher chance of fraudulent cases. This is much more serious than a manual fraud as this can be done without visiting a physical bank branch. In fact this can be done from far flung areas through many e-banking channels. Therefore, it was need of the time to initiate discussion on 'Managing Fraud within e-banking Arena', the topic of panel discussion at the conference. The healthy discussions by the professionals will be beneficial for the banking industry of Bangladesh.
Our sponsors have backed us once again. We are thankful to the local, Pakistani and international players for their continuous support. The regulators of Bangladesh have been very kind to us throughout the three years and their involvement in highly appreciated. Our local partner, Ciproco, has been of immense help throughout the period and without whom we could not have managed these events successfully. On behalf of Total Communications, I welcome all the foreign and local guests who will be gracing the occasion. I thank all the participants once again for making the e-banking event a permanent feature of Bangladesh events calendar.
