US Plains HRW wheat bids firmer

Published Updated

Hard red winter wheat basis bids were firmer on Monday with good demand noted for new-crop wheat. Protein levels were high, and millers were noted substituting high-protein hard winter wheat for higher-priced spring wheat. But as harvest advanced, miller concern about small kernel sizes grew. Yields varied widely.
Rainfall over the weekend delayed harvesting in some areas of Kansas, and high humidity early Monday kept combines out of fields, though high heat should dry the crop quickly, wheat experts said. Kansas City Board of Trade July wheat ended down 3-1/4 cents on Friday at $8.68.
