The Islamabad Serena Hotel has received the certificate of approval from DAS Certification, UK accredited by United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS) for its environmental management system (BS EN ISO 14001) in compliance with British Standard (BS), European Number (EN) and International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), the first of its kind to be conferred upon a hotel in the country.
The Serena Hotel launched its corporate environmental policy in 2007 and for its implementation set down some environmental principles and established procedures to comply with regulatory requirements and international standards of environmental management in hospitality industry.
These principles includes minimisation of pollution through proper waste management and effective maintenance of equipment; education and training of staff and encourage them to act in an environmentally responsible manner; strive to provide and use products and services, which are safe and not harmful to the environment; conservation of its resources through efficient utilisation and the application of appropriate recovery and recycling methods; periodic monitoring and evaluation of practices embodied in Serena Environmental, Education and Development (SEED) programme launched; and to encourage suppliers to take up the hotel's environmental goals.
After a decade of pioneering environmentally responsible practices, it is the natural progression for Islamabad Serena Hotel, to benchmark this system against an internationally recognised set of standards. With the rising importance of corporate social responsibility, many global companies do not only adopt socially responsible practices but also expect their partners and suppliers to do the same.-PR
