Finnish inflation at 3.4 percent in November

Published Updated

HELSINKI: Finnish inflation stood at 3.4 percent in November compared to the same month a year ago, but outstripped the eurozone average, official data showed Wednesday.

In October, year-on-year inflation in Finland hit 3.5 percent.

In November, "consumer prices were pushed up most from the previous year by increased prices of housing and food," Statistics Finland said in its monthly review.

The national statistical agency said increased energy costs, interest rates and rents accounted for the rise in housing prices, while soaring prices for among other things non-alcoholic beverages, sweets, meat and dairy contributed to boosting overall food prices.

"Increases in the prices of automotive fuels and restaurant and café services also had an impact on inflation," the agency noted.

Lower prices for consumer electronics meanwhile countered the rising inflation trend, Statistics Finland said.

According to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices, which varies slightly from Statistics Finland data, the Finnish inflation rate in November was 3.2 percent, while the corresponding average rate in the overall euro area remained unchanged from October's 3.0 percent.
