Demonstrations on the Mall: Chief Justice LHC warns city government officials

Chief Justice (CJ) Lahore High Court (LHC) while hearing the petition of Mall Road Traders Association against the protest demonstrations on the Mall came hard on city government officials and said if they were unable to perform their duties they should quit or be removed at once.
The CJ remarked that it appeared that officials are not willing to take any action on their own to address the grievance of Mall traders who are complaining against continuous protests on the main road. The traders contended that owing to the protests staged on Mall road they had been facing loses in business of millions of rupees. They pleaded that the city administration be directed to stop these protests on the mall that had become a common practice.
The court observed that unlawful possession causing troubles not only to traders but also to common man. The court further remarked that it is the duty of the respondents who are public functionaries and holding important posts to serve the public at large. The law officer sought time to hold a meeting with respondents and court adjourned hearing till June 3.
