Rs 607 million allocated for roads' improvement

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has allocated rupees 607 million for carpeting city roads, their patch work and repairing, improvement of sewerage system and provision of other facilities in the markets of federal capital.
"Rupees 450 million are being spent on carpeting of roads, Rs 150 million on patch work, carpeting and up-gradation of allied facilities in different C-class markets of the federal capital, while rupees seven million being spent for improvement in the sewerage system of markets," said Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, Chairman CDA during his visit to different small markets of Sector F-6 and F-8. Member Environment, Mian Waheed-ud-Din, Member Engineering, Abdul Jabbar Malano and senior officers of different formations of the Authority were also present on the occasion.
Elahi said that the CDA is focusing on development and up-gradation of small markets of different residential sectors and sufficient funds have been allocated for the purpose. He said that CDA is making all-out efforts to keep the city clean. However, it is also the responsibility of the citizens and traders to keep their surroundings, markets and streets in tidy condition. He directed concerned formations for further improvement of footpaths, public toilets, cleanliness, sanitation and other facilities in C-class shopping centres in the capital.
On the occasion, Chairman CDA was apprised that the maintenance and up-gradation of the small markets in I-Series sectors has already been completed whereas work on up-gradation of small markets in other sectors is in progress. Elahi directed that proper sit-out areas and landscaping in the markets be provided in addition to placing additional dustbins in the markets. He pointed out that for the first time, different roads and avenues falling in the G and I Sector series have been decorated with lush-green landscape and colourful flowers.
He further said that during the ongoing fiscal year, more funds have been allocated for the sectors neglected in the past, and that development and up-gradation of the markets and road infrastructure is being carried out in consultation with the sector citizens committee. He said that streetlights, sewerage, development in the parks is being carried out at a fast pace to facilitate the residents and traders committee of the capital.
Later, talking to reporters after inaugurating Spring Rose Festival - 2011, Chairman CDA said that special floral arrangements are being made at the entry and exit points of the federal capital so that the people visiting the city could have a pleasant impression about unique landscaping and green character of Islamabad.
He said that the active participation of the competitors in the Rose Festival speaks volume about interest of people in the beauty, fragrance and colours of spring displayed in the natural environment of Islamabad. He informed that CDA is introducing new varieties of roses in the parks and also supporting residents in promoting new species of flowers. He also said that CDA would also evolve mechanism for training and gardening to help promote floriculture in the city.
