US Plains HRW wheat bids steady

Published Updated

Hard red winter wheat basis bids were mostly steady on Friday as mostly dry weather and high winds crippled the planted crop's growth. The winter wheat crop in portions of western Oklahoma have already been declared a disaster, a wheat merchant said. "This is the worst the farmers have seen at this time of year," the dealer said.
In Catoosa, Oklahoma the basis improved by 5 cents due to lack of movement, a dealer said. Barges were loaded with previously contracted supply, but no new sales booked, the dealer said. Otherwise dealers characterized the market as quiet with farmers and buyers alike monitoring the detrimental weather conditions. Some areas of the US Plains saw light rain but not enough to improve to condition of the crop.
