Five killed in drone attacks

Five people were killed and seven others injured in US drone attacks in Tora Taka, locality near Angoor Adda on Pak-Afghan border in South Waziristan Agency on Wednesday. According to reports the pilotless US predators fired six missiles targeting a house, two vehicles and a motorcycle in tehsil Birmal on Pak-Afghan border.
The strike resulted in killing of five persons and leaving seven others seriously wounded. The targeted house was partially damaged in the attack while both vehicles were completed destroyed. The injured were shifted to a private clinic for treatment. Sources have said that the targeted persons were Afghan refugees, who were on way to Afghanistan.
However, some sources were of the view that targeted people were associated with local commander Mulla Nazir. But, it could not be confirmed from the group. The political administration of South Waziristan has confirmed the drone attacks and said that they were investigating the number of casualties and nationalities of the targeted people.
The political administration has dispatched a team under the leadership of political naib tehsildar to the affected area to investigate and file a detailed report in this regard. Meanwhile, the elders of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe had strongly condemned the drone attacks.
Talking to media, elders included Taj Mohammad, Noor Ali Khan and Mohammad Ali said that drone attacks have concerned the tribesmen and is tantamount to attack on the sovereignty of the country. They said that 10 million tribesmen of Fata will no more tolerate drone attacks, saying that the government should itself stop these drone attacks or allowed tribesmen to reply these attacks on their own.
They said that the patience of tribesmen is running out, saying that they have rendered sacrifices for the protection of the borders in the past and still ready to offer any kind of sacrifice for the security and protection of the borders of Pakistan. They said that the drone attacks are increasing hatred against United States and these attacks are against the national interest.
AFP adds: US drones on Wednesday resumed missile attacks in Pakistan for the first time in a month, killing six fighters from the al Qaeda-linked Haqqani network on the Afghan border, officials said. Unmanned aircraft fired four missiles into a vehicle travelling through the South Waziristan district, targeting a common root for Taliban and al Qaeda-linked militants who infiltrate Afghanistan to attack US troops. "It was a US drone attack. Four missiles were fired. The target was a vehicle. Several militants were killed. The death toll is six," a Pakistani military official told AFP on condition of anonymity.
