Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Saturday assured former Pakistan wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider that he along with his family would be given complete security should the cricketer decide to return to Pakistan from his self-imposed exile in the United Kingdom.
The cricketer dramatically withdrew from the national team last November where it was playing with South Africa in the one-day series in the United Arab Emirates and flew to Britain and sought asylum, claiming he was being hounded by the bookies and betting mafia for spot fixing.
Zulqarnain Haider met Rehman Malik at his Central London residence and explained to him the circumstances that led him to abandon the national team. He told the Minister that he was ready to withdraw his asylum application and return home on the promise that he and his family would not be harmed and provided complete protection.
