Review of judgement in Deedar's appointment: application moved by government

An application was moved on Saturday by the government in the Supreme Court to review the apex court March 22 detailed judgement on NAB Chairman Deedar Hussain Shah's appointment, disqualifying him for the slot forever. The lawyer for the government Abdul Hafeez Peerzada, who submitted the application to the apex court, told reporters that the court in its verdict did not take into account Deedar's first appointment.
In its short order on March 10, the apex court had ruled that the NAB chief's appointment was illegal and ordered Deedar to immediately relinquish the charge. The court took the plea in its detailed judgement on March 22 that appointing NAB chairman was not the prerogative of the President and a purposeful consultation with the opposition leader and the Chief Justice of Pakistan was mandatory.
According to the verdict, Deedar was also declared disqualified for chairman NAB slot forever. Reason being that the law ministry had issued his reappointment notification. The three-judge bench directed Deedar - a former Supreme Court judge - to immediately leave the office he assumed five months back.
