On the intervention of Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat-ul- Ebad Khan, and Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has "reverted to the previous level of load shedding rather than the announced duration of up to 14 hours."
An official announcement here on Saturday said that the Governor and the Chief Minister had taken a strict notice of the announced duration of the load shedding. It said that they had summoned the high officials of the KESC and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and also contacted the Federal Ministers and authorities.
Talking to higher ups of KESC and SSGC, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan drew attention towards the difficulties being faced by the people as well as the industries. He said that the Matric examinations were about to commence in a couple of days and later the intermediate examinations would start.
The governor and the chief minister, after mutual consultations, held separate meetings with the officials of KESC and SSGC as well as the representatives of the business community. The meeting held at the Governor House was attended by the Chief Executive Officer and the Managing Director of the KESC and the SSGC and their senior officers and representatives of business community viz Saeed Shafiq and Mian Zahid as well as Adviser to the Chief Minister, Zubair Motiwala.
The governor directed that in order to meet the possible shortage of gas, the big consumers should effect appropriate cut in consumption of gas and that the shortage should also be met through better load management. He also appealed to the people to conserve gas and switch off their geysers and curtail the consumption of gas. Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan also asked the officials of the KESC and SSGC to foster awareness among the people regarding the conservation of energy.
