Chief Executive Officer, Punjab Board of Investment & Trade, Saadat Muzaffar, who is in Bosnia Herzegovina to attend the 2nd Sarajevo Investment Forum, called on Minister for Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia Herzegovina Mladen Zirojevic.
On behalf of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Saadat Muzaffar met with the Minister to discuss ways to further trade and investment between both countries. Also accompanying Saadat Muzaffar was the Pakistani Ambassador, His Excellency Jahaur Saleem and a delegation of businessmen from the Lahore Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
According to the spokesperson of PBIT during the meeting Mladen Zirojevic said that the distance between the two countries should not hinder the tremendous potential of trade and investment between both countries. He said that there are several agreements between the two countries that create a conducive atmosphere for private sector engagement, such as the Agreement on Trade and Economic Co-operation, which was signed in 2009. He expressed his desire to see expeditious work to further the signing of the Preferential Trade Agreement between the two countries in the near future.
CEO PBIT Saadat Muzaffar, said that direct trade between both countries could eliminate the expenditure incurred on exports by Bosnia. He highlighted the margin that Bosnia could have in trading with Pakistan in rice, furniture, surgical tools, leather, processed goods and fruits like mangoes and citrus. He also highlighted the importance for Bosnia to diversity into non-traditional markets and expands into Asia tapping into a market of over a billion people.
With the promise to work closely on all areas of economic co-operation and take the negligible trade between both countries to a target more reflective of the capacity and cultural affiliations, both sides agreed to exchange delegations on specific areas that have economic potential. Saadat Muzaffar, on behalf of the Chief Minister Punjab extended an invitation to Bosnian Minister Mladen Zirojevic to visit Pakistan. Bosnian Minister said he wished to visit with a similar delegation of businessmen from Bosnia.
