Agility, the owner of Pakistan Automated Customs Computerised System (PaCCS) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) appear involved in an un-ending 'Love-hate' relationship over the use of PaCCS by Pakistan customs. On March 15 Agility had indicated that it will finally shut down the system on March 31 in case FBR fail to arrive at some agreeable solution on the mode of continuing the system.
March 31st was the cut off date but there is no word either from Agility or FBR about the future of the system. A source close to Agility when asked as to which way things are moving, said: "something is going behind closed doors" but had no knowledge about the out come so far. Although Agility has already registered arbitration in French court for settlement of dues including six years of service to Pakistan customs, for all intents and purpose it would like to stay on instead of breaking the relationship.
Since FBR is aware of this situation, it is prolonging taking the final decision to settle the issue on their terms. How long it will take and who would ultimately gain from this game of hide and seek between Agility and FBR, would depend, most probably on the pressure and likes and dislikes of the stakeholders and users of the system.
