National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) North Zone (N-5) has devised a new operational plan to control crimes and reduce accidents on Grand Trunk (GT) Road. This was stated by Abbas Hussain Malick Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Motorway Police N-5 while addressing the operational meeting of N-5 here on Thursday. All the SSPs, DSPs and operational officers of the entire Zone were present on the occasion.
"NH&MP will soon implement enforcement and operational plan, which not only help minimise the accident ratio, but also help prompt road users along with controlling traffic violation and crimes," said DIG. Abbas further said that prevention of accidents in urban areas and the safety of pedestrians are one of the big challenges for north zone.
Informatory sign boards will be placed in co-ordination with National Highway Authority (NHA) at the start point of city areas on priority basis and direction in this regard have been passed to all concerned SSPs, DIG said, adding that movie making of Public Services Vehicles (PSVs) at all toll plazas on GT road N-5 would be ensured to save the passengers from swindler and this practice would also help to reduce dacoit in PSVs.
He further added that special speed checking squad would be deputed to check and intercept the violation of over speeding in urban areas to avoid accident and to save the precious lives of the pedestrians. Special briefing sessions would be started in all urban areas and in villages adjacent to GT road to educate the general public who cross the road, DIG added.
Special campaign is going to be launched to control overloading of passengers and goods, as these were also causes of accident. Extra seats from PSVs would be removed and no motorcyclist would be allowed to ply on road without wearing safety helmet, said Abbas, adding that all possible measures within the available resources would be adopted for the safety of the commuters and for free flow of traffic.
