Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Wajid Ali Durrani announced a new and exclusive security plan for the Capital City under which police stations were divided into beats, and beat in-charge were made sole heads of his respective jurisdiction.
The Capital Police have devised the plan, which will be initially implemented in the area of Shalimar Police Station and would be extended in other police stations after its success, the IGP said during his visit to Shalimar Police Station on Thursday. He said the Beat In-charge will act as head of his jurisdiction and to be responsible for law and order situation in the area. A total of six beat in-charges in the North and South area of Shalimar police station will be supervised by two Additional SHOs who will be officers of Sub-Inspector level, he elaborated.
IGP said that Beat In-charge will be accountable to his high ups in case of any untoward situation and will be assisted in accomplishing his professional responsibilities by two Assistant Sub-Inspectors, six head constables and 12 constables. The IGP directed SHO Shalimar to personally brief the personnel before their departure to any special duty and to maintain complete bio data and background of his staff.
He said that proper record should be maintained about the weapons given to them from time to time and directed to separate the Weapon Store from `Malkhana.' The IGP said that police official of Inspector rank will be appointed by Station House Officer for his assistance in accomplishing professional assignment.
Durrani also asked to ensure proper utilisation of all available resources and use vehicles for patrolling purpose. He said that discipline is very much crucial for success of any department and directed to maintain it with special focus to curb crime in the area. He also checked reporting and investigation room and registers kept there. He said that police is a service-oriented job and every police official must ensure investigation of case purely on merit to provide relief to complainants.
The IGP awarded cash prizes to Muharrir staff of Shalimar police station for maintaining record in proper manner and hoped for good performance in future too. DIG (Operations) Bani Amin Khan, SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, AIG (Operations) Ehsan Sadiq, SP (Saddar) Dr Khurram Shehzad, ASP Captain Muhammad Ilyas (Retd), Station House Officer Inspector Khalid Mehmud Awan and other senior police officials were also present on the occasion.
