More than 30,000 Umra pilgrims are running from pillar to post to get reserved their seats in PIA flights but all in vain. Travel agents have complained that a mafia in PIA was active to accommodate their favourite travel agents and tour operators. This mafia was providing seats to their clients in "N","O" and "T' classes, while other travel agents are being forced to purchase tickets in "Y" class.
Travel agents also protested on increasing the fare for Jeddah from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Multan by Rs 2000 without any prior notice. Which had created an embarrassing situation for them. Sources said that for the first time in the history of country, about 5,000 visas were issued on a daily basis to Karachiites for the purpose of Umrah by the Consulate of Saudi Arabia since the holy month of Rabi-ul-Awwal and similar number of visas are being issued by Islamabad embassy.
Umrah pilgrims have lauded the efforts for the issuance of visas and thanked the government of Saudi Arabia. They said that the staff of SA Consulate in Karachi and Saudi Embassy in Islamabad were working day and night for the issuance of visas, which, they said was highly commendable. They also appreciated the efforts of the Saudi Arabian ambassador for extending assistance to the flood affectees of Pakistan.
