Arrest warrants of Musharraf: Pakistan to contact Interpol

Pakistan has decided to contact Interpol for circulation of global arrest warrants of former military dictator General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) in Benazir Bhutto assassination case, as it has no extradition treaty with the United Kingdom.
The prosecutor of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) informed Rana Nisar Ahmed, Judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court III during the hearing of the high profile assassination of December 27, 2007, in which 26 persons, including former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto were assassinated.
Rana Nisar Ahmed, Judge of the ATC III resumed the hearing of the murder in high security prison, Adiala Central Jail on Saturday and asked the prosecutor about arrest of Pervez Musharraf. The learned judge has given prosecutors April 2 deadline to serve the arrest warrant issued for detention of Musharraf in February.
Responding to queries from the court the prosecutor of the FIA said that Pakistan has no extradition treaty with Britain, however, on the basis of bilateral relations the exchange of criminals is possible. He said that it was decided to ask Interpol to circulate a global arrest warrant for former president over the murder of Benazir Bhutto.
The prosecution presented three letters before the judge of the ATC-III which have been sent to the British Government for the execution of the warrants, prosecution lawyer Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali said while talking to media after hearing.
He said that, so far, no response has been received from the British Home Department and now the FIA has decided to write to Interpol to help execute the warrants. He said that as the court has directed to make all-out efforts for arrest of Musharraf so the FIA has decided to raise the matter with Interpol for issuance of global arrest warrant of the former president.
Musharraf is alleged to have been part of a 'high profile conspiracy' to have his political rival killed before elections, though the exact nature of the charges against him is not clear. Musharraf is living in UK on self-imposed exile. It is pertinent to note that Benazir Bhutto was assassinated by firing followed by suicide bombing, in Liaquat Bagh on December 27, 2007, when she was leaving the venue after addressing a highly attended election rally. Besides the PPP leader, 25 other persons were also killed in the terror bid.
Rehman Malik, Interior Minister and then security chief of the slain leader on Friday (March 25) claimed that all the assassins of Benazir Bhutto were arrested along with the weapons they used and they have told the investigators about the whole plot.
