The provincial capital would be made a drug-free city in a period of three years time under the Lahore Drug Free City (LDFC) Project. Muhammad Altaf Qumar, Deputy Director General of Anti Narcotic Force (ANF), expressed these views while addressing a seminar held in Government College for Women Samanabad on Thursday, which was arranged under joint collaboration of ANF and Aghaz-e-Nau (a non profit organisation).
He said for achieving this objective Lahore city had been divided into six different zones, and support and co-operation of different NGOs had been enlisted for creating awareness among the masses regarding the detrimental effects of drugs besides enrolling active participation of different government departments such as police, social welfare, excise and taxation and other agencies for putting in co-ordinated efforts in this regard.
Maria Ali, Drug Demand Reduction Officer of ANF, gave a presentation regarding classification of drugs and the harmful effects of drug use. She also deliberated upon the role of ANF in drug demand reduction and drug supply decrease measures.
Other speakers included Dr Shaharyar Aftab, Dr Mehmooda Aftab of Aghaz-e-Nau and Government College for Women Samanabad Principal Tasneem Akhtar. The speakers underline the LDFC importance of the project in preventing the youth from falling pray to drug usage.
