Police in Finland said on Thursday that they have arrested four people in connection with football match-fixing in the Premier League team RoPS, which is based in the northern city of Rovaniemi.
"Today four people were arrested in connection with the preliminary investigation into match-fixing," Finland's National Bureau of Investigation said, bringing the total number of people in custody to nine.
The investigation was prompted by the detention in February of a Singaporean man who was travelling in Finland with forged identity documents.
"According to Singaporean officials and public accounts, the man has been linked to several match-fixing cases," the bureau said. A local newspaper, Lapin Kansa, reported on its website that the four players arrested on Wednesday are Zambians Stephen Kunda, Godfrey Chibanga and Francis Kombe, as well as Georgian player Valter Khorguashvili. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
