Issuing students' results PSMA gives BISE 72-hour breather

Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) authorities must eliminate anti-student policies and provide relief to the students, Sharf-uz-Zaman Member Advisory Committee, Private Schools Management Association (PSMA) demanded during a protest in front of Karachi Press Club on Thursday.
Zaman said that BISE must terminate services of ineligible, inexperienced and corrupt officers and eliminate anti-student and anti-education policies. The board withheld result of last year's annual exams of 600 students belonging to private institutions. The affected students recently received a notice from the board that their results have been withheld and they are not eligible to take the exams in 2011, and could appear in matriculation examination in year 2012 as fresh students.
He said, 'PSMA demands not to play with the future of the students and take back the unjust and cruel decision. PSMA is giving 72hour ultimatum to the board for taking back the decision. After that, the association would surround the board till the announcement of the results. If results would not be announced even after that, a legal suit would be filed in the court.
The PSMA-body member said that the board is playing with ill tactics to sabotage transparent policies of Dr Ishrat-ul Ebad Governor Sindh's for the examination. Earlier, it had decided to conduct examination of two students on a single seat but after the protest of alumni, this decision was twisted from bad to worst. Now, the board has decided that in big examination centres, one student would sit on one seat where as in smaller ones, two will take the exams on one seat. PSMA strongly opposes this decision, as it is a discriminatory one, he added.
He termed inclusion of blacklisted and objectionable schools as the examination centres by the board an open conspiracy. Instead of eliminating cheating, the two-seat decision and inclusion of black listed schools would propagate cheating trend, he maintained. PSMA also demands reformation of examination centres as they had not been made keeping in view of the city's law and order condition neither distances from candidates' houses, Zaman added.
BISE has put 0.3 million students' future at stake by appointing an inexperienced controller examination. PSMA demands appointing an experienced and honest person (on the post), said Yahya Khan, Member Advisory Committee PSMA. He asked media to help the students to come out of this crisis and instead of becoming victims of the board's unjust decisions.
