Lethargic office procedures carried out by Head of Departments (HoD), in government organisations are causing delay in the payment of pensions of retired or deceased government employees. Sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday that, the City Government of Karachi has been delaying the release of pension payments of several of its employees.
Sources told that some employees or family members of the employees wait for months or even years seeking pensions but to no avail. Despite the orders of DCO for quick release of pensions within the time duration of six months for the retired employees and the time duration of three months for the deceased employee, the scenario looks quite different in reality, the sources informed.
When contacted the authorities at CDGK, they informed that the department is currently facing a shortfall of funds. They said that the current financial crunch has taken toll over them like all the other government institutions. The Authorities said that the lax attitude shown by the Head of Departments of government organisations in this regard is the main hurdle. They said that the HoD's take undue time to inform about their retired or deceased employees, for the procedure to move further.
They said that many a times they had received letters of employees, who have been retired from the service or have passed away years ago, depicting the performance of these departments. The Authorities further said that the lack of knowledge among the populace regarding the procedures involved also lengthen the time duration. They said that we have often seen that the people do not provide the important documents such as the NIC's or Death Certificates required, which also hinder the transfer progress, they said.
Though we are working on a number of projects, which would probably lessen the troubles being faced by the people in the near future, they predicted.
